I have a front mounted on my Wrangler and I never use my Larson because it’s too freaking big…drives me nuts as it dances at stop lights. I use a smaller antenna. I have two Comet SBB5 antennas on my van which has a fiberglass top, but I have a cheapy TRAM antenna in the center of the top of my F-250 and you cannot even compare the I’d Mount And Dew Ya tShirt The Tram is much better than the Comet antennas and both types are at close to 1/1. If you put the base loaded TRAM on the van it doesn’t work at all because of a need for a ground plane, but if you put the Comet SBB5 on my truck, it works no better, so it’s a true “no ground plane” antenna. You’ll be very disappointed with any antenna mounted near the engine, which is also close to the I’d Mount And Dew Ya tShirt The mount from the spare tire rack is more than sufficient for VHF/UHF antennas, as would be your roll bar. You could buy a fiberglass top and put an aluminum sheet inside, which would be fine – just ask a ‘Vette owner.
